Certified Life Coach Credential:

The Certified Life Coach (CLC) credential is ILCT’s internal certification and is achievable when you:

  1. Complete the 40 hour Foundational Course without missing more than 5 classes;
  2. Pass the written examination at 70% or above;
  3. Document 50 hours of coaching (with at least 5 clients and no more than 25% pro bono - click for application; and
  4. Complete the Coaching Skills Practicum (20 hours). (Three (3) of the observed coaching sessions will be obtained through this class); and
  5. Complete the ICF Core Competency Class (20 hours). (Three (3) of the observed coaching sessions will be obtained through this class).

Once you have completed all of the above steps, you will be awarded our Certified Life Coach (CLC) credential.

The Certified Life Coach Credential is valid for three years and may be renewed by meeting the requirements listed below:

RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Submit renewal application with appropriate documentation. Please note that the 2009 renewal application will be posted at a later date.
  • Documented participation in a minimum of 40 hours of Continuing Coach Education (CCE) over the three-year period since initial certification or last renewal. 
  • A minimum of 24 CCE hours must directly relate to the ICF Core Competencies.
  • The remaining 16 CCE hours must relate to either the ICF Core Competencies or to i) the personal development of the coach, ii) the development of the coach's practice or iii) skills or tools that are directly applicable to coaching.
  • The cost for the renewal application is $50.00.

CONTINUING COACH EDUCATION

The following qualify as Continuing Coach Education:

  • CCE Approved Providers. These are listed in the Training Program Search Service.
  • Individual courses which the applicant has not previously completed within an ICF Accredited Coach Training Program (ACTP) or Approved Coach Specific Training Hours (ACSTH).  Please note: Coach training schools must apply for and be awarded CCEUs for courses not included in an ACTP or ACSTH. ACTP and ACSTH programs are listed in the Training Program Search Service.
  • ICF Virtual Education.
  • ICF Conference breakout sessions, pre-conference and post-conference workshops that have passed the ICF Conference Education Steering Committee program selection process.
  • ICF Chapter events which are approved for CCEUs.
  • Non-ICF approved courses or seminars for which the individual applicant member can clearly prove: i) the member successfully completed the course work; and ii) there exists a direct relationship between the course objectives and the ICF Core Competencies; or iii) the course material relates to the personal development of the coach and/or the development of the coach's practice; or iv) the course content is directly applicable to coaching. The burden of proof regarding applicability to coaching rests solely with the applicant member.

The following do not qualify as Continuing Coach Education:

  • Individual and group coaching.
  • Courses and seminars taught from a therapeutic perspective.
  • Undergraduate or post-graduate university classes unless they fall within the definition of Coach Specific Training
