This Certificate Course, designed for coaching over the phone
or in person, will provide in-depth training for coaches in any
niche to enhance and deepen their coaching skills. You will develop
expertise in accessing the nonverbal dimension that exists in all
interactions and communications.
Using Body-Mind Life Coaching™ tools,
coaches will learn ways to work with the powerful messages of
the body. It is said that the body never lies. Through habitual
ways of thinking, acting and feeling, there is often a disconnection
between the mind and body.
The main goal of this course is to teach skills and techniques
for working with the fertile ground and wisdom of the body to help
bridge the body-mind gap. Additionally, you will gain advanced understanding
and practice in the many ways you can uncover, utilize and work
with the information from the body.
The materials for the course will acquaint
you with the fields of "Somatics" and "Body Therapy," which provide
the foundation for Body-Mind Life Coaching™. The instructor
has written a 225-page manual, filled with articles, references
and specific papers on the Body-Mind Life Coaching™ Process.
The course content will focus on learning
how to access the language of the body by paying attention to
presence, physical sensations, breath, voice, posture, and unconscious
habit patterns. Readings, discussion, class experiments, cases,
role-plays, demonstration sessions, personal exploration and buddy
work will provide different ways to work with non-verbal content.
The techniques of ‘pausing’, ‘noticing’ and ‘practicing’ will
be used to create and deepen awareness and forward the action.
In addition, halfway through the training, you will have the opportunity to coach a client who has volunteered to come into the class. Supervision and discussion immediately afterwards provides opportunities for self-assessment to increase awareness and to deepen learning in a safe and supportive environment. Role-plays will also provide opportunities to practice the skills and tools, using a co-coaching training model.
Examples of ways to use the body as an avenue to gain information to shift perspectives, explore possibilities and affirm the rightness of choices will be explored in depth, as you learn how to hone your skills in the last half of the course.
Course Objectives:
To learn how to bridge the body-mind gap through body awareness and mindfulness experiments.
To understand the universal application of Body-Mind Life Coaching™ skills in all forms of coaching.
To understand the importance of breath and various ways to work with breathing in coaching.
To experiment with different skills and exercises to access the language of the body.
To understand when and how to use body-mind skills and techniques with clients.
To learn embodied listening and attunement skills.
To practice skills through role-plays and the opportunity to coach a volunteer client.
To develop proficiency in integrating the Body-Mind Life Coaching™ process into your coaching style.
Body-Mind Life Coaching™ Specialist Certificate: This certificate will provide you with advanced training in the ever-growing and popular fields of Wellness Coaching and Body Focused Coaching. Other coaching specialties, such as, Executive Coaching, Relationship Coaching, Career and Life Transitions Coaching and coach training and mentoring, can be enhanced through developing proficiency in this approach.

The Certification Training will provide in-depth personal
experience and practical knowledge of the Wellness Inventory change process
as well as a unique coaching skill-set to maximize the program’s effectiveness in creating change
in your clients’ lives. The goal of the course is to create competence
in delivering the program to both individual and organizational coaching clients.
The Wellness Inventory is an online assessment
and life-balance tool that focuses on the whole person in 12 key dimensions
of wellness. A powerful tool for coaches, the Wellness Inventory is an advanced
version of the life wheel (coaching mandala), and provides invaluable insight
into your client and as well as a framework or "organizing principle" within
which to work.
Participants will gain proficiency in working with
clients with the 12 part wellness wheel (Wellness Energy System) via an ongoing
exploration of the wellness wheel as a dynamic hologram of interdependent
elements. The process of working with the Wellness Wheel helps to develop
greater coherence in your personal life and teaches you how to use this "whole person" process in
your coaching to facilitate greater coherence in your clients’ lives.
From a marketing and business perspective, you will learn strategies for
using the Wellness Inventory to:
Create a wellness dimension in your practice
Quickly determine client's "change readiness" in
each dimension of wellness
Create a framework for ongoing wellness coaching
Build your practice and increase client retention
Create new profit centers
Work with individuals, groups and organizations
The Wellness Inventory was created
over 30 years ago by John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H , one
of the founders of the modern wellness movement. Dr.
Travis opened the first Wellness Center in the U.S.
in 1975 and created the Wellness Inventory as an intake
tool for the center. Earlier, while at Johns Hopkins
and the National Public Health Service, Dr. Travis was
a protégé of Dr. Louis Robbins, creator of the HRA (Health Risk Appraisal). Unlike the HRA which is a diagnostic tool to determine health risk, the Wellness Inventory is primarily an educational tool that focuses on the whole person. The online version of the Wellness Inventory was created by HealthWorld Online in collaboration with Dr. Travis.
Bobbie Burdett was a co-creator of the first wellness center in the U.S. in 1975 with John W. Travis, M.D. She co-developed the wellness coaching process for the center and has been coaching for the past 30 years. In the process, she has developed an unparalleled depth of understanding of the Wellness Inventory. A lifelong learner, she has studied many aspects of wellness for nearly 40 years, and has been instrumental in honing and updating the assessment and commentaries of the Wellness Inventory.
Jim Strohecker is CEO and co-founder of HealthWorld Online (www.healthy.net), the world's first Internet network for wellness and complementary/alternative medicine, and co-creator of the Wellness Inventory assessment and life-balance program (www.WellPeople.com) and certification training. He has co-authored five books, including Natural Healing for Depression: Solutions from the World's Great Health Traditions and Practitioners (Perigee, 1999), and has collaborated on over 20 titles in the fields of natural health, psychology, human potential, yoga, meditation, and world spiritual traditions. He has served on the numerous boards, including the President's Advisory Council for Bastyr University and the Board of Trustees of the American University of Complementary Medicine

Listen to Interview with the Training Co-Creators: The interview focuses on the Wellness Inventory and our wellness philosophy, our wellness coaching method and holographic change process, as well as our Certification Training. The interview is with the training's co-creators, Bobbie Burdett and Jim Strohecker. (Bobbie co-created the first wellness center in the United States with John W. Travis, MD, MPH, creator of the Wellness Inventory, in 1975.) The interview gives an excellent understanding of our wellness approach and our certification training. "The Wellness Inventory is a powerful tool for health and wellness coaches and their clients. Coaching is all about motivation, intention and follow through, and the Wellness Inventory provides clients with invaluable feedback and the ability to track progress in any of the 12 areas of life. This tool should be part of every coach's tool box."
Dr. Patrick Williams, MCC, CEO, Institute for Life Coach Training
"This pioneering program gives individuals personal insight into 12 dimensions of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness, and provides tools to transform this new awareness into lasting lifestyle change and a heightened sense of health and wellbeing.
