Introduction to Wellness Coaching

Coaching wellness requires acknowledging many aspects of well-being that extend far beyond an attention to physical health. Wellness involves a holistic approach that integrates mind, body, and spirit to facilitate optimal living. Designed for coaches, wellness professionals, and laymen, this course discusses wellness concepts, explains scope of practice, reviews wellness assessments, and addresses the specific skill set of effective wellness coaches.

Participants will learn the relevant theories, principles, and techniques that cultivate motivation for lifestyle transformation. Keys to lasting behavioral change are discussed and the importance of a personal wellness foundation is explored.

Course Objectives/Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define wellness/optimal living
  • Define wellness coaching and the related scope of practice
  • Utilize wellness assessments
  • Identify the Stages of Change and utilize 9 change processes
  • Utilize foundational coaching skills to move clients through the stages of change
  • Utilize Appreciative Inquiry within a coaching conversation
  • Utilize Motivational Interviewing techniques to combat resistance to change
  • Co-create wellness action plans
  • Identify the significance of SMART goals in establishing accountability
  • Conduct effective wellness coaching conversations
