Tomorrow's Life Coach (TLC) is a monthly online
journal from the Institute for Life Coach Training
(ILCT) that nourishes the intellect, intuition and
inspiration of the personal and business coaching
community.
Pat's
Ponderings
In my last newsletter, I reflected
on the past year and the tremendous growth and development
of coaching as well as the training opportunities with
ILCT's many classes. As I reflect on the future for
2007 and beyond, I see a tremendous increase in our
students seeking CERTIFICATION tracks. More and more
of you are realizing the importance of ICF certification
for your own sense of professionalism and for embracing
coaching as a true profession. The more coaches who
become certified, the more important it becomes in the
public eye as a way of differentiating a qualified coach
from any other coach. For those of you not yet certified,
it is important to state that you are a student at a
reputable school such as ILCT and that you are on a
certification track. Competence and confidence develop
together, and the more competent you are in your skills,
the more confident you will be in your coaching and
in your description of your services.
The numbers of certified coaches
are advancing rapidly with the ICF and that bodes well
for the profession and for the recognition by the public
of ICF certification being the gold standard. Would
you hire a financial planner to invest your money, or
are you more likely to hire a CERTIFED FINANCIAL PLANNER?
Would you hire a bookkeeper to do your taxes, or are
you more likely to hire a Certified or Chartered Accountant?
Make 2007 the year become certified
as a coach. If you are already certified, offer to mentor
those who are not, as it will add experience and mastery
to your skills as a professional coach.
I love this profession. I jumped
on board early, believing coaching would become a recognized "new" way
of helping people live purposeful and fulfilling lives.
Now with hundreds of training opportunities and dozens
of colleges and universities offering coaching courses,
we at ILCT are proud to be one of the most widely recognized
international coach training programs, based in strong
theory and practical applications for coaching the whole
person.
Happy New Year and to a prosperous
and highly satisfying 2007!

ILCT
Faculty – Spotlight on Marilyn O'Hearne
Marilyn O'Hearne, a Master Certified
Coach through the International Coach Federation, goes
on the ICF board in January, 2007. She looks forward
to hearing from you in order to best represent ICF members.
Marilyn co-lead a session at the ICF conference in Vancouver
in 2001 on Cross Cultural Coaching, and a balance session
at the 2005 conference, as well as having served her
local chapter. As a board member, she hopes to provide
a culturally sensitive voice as the organization continues
to grow and become more international.
Marilyn's clients attribute their
breakthrough increased PEP (Performance, Effectiveness,
and Profitability, and/or Peace, Energy, and Prosperity)
to their coaching with Marilyn. For 30+ years, she has
facilitated development through coaching, counseling,
training, writing; teaching at universities, ILCT and
in Brazil. Affectionately nicknamed the Velvet Hammer
for her gentle strength; Marilyn's warmth, humor, integrity,
and excellent communication skills put people at ease.
She provides a secure foundation while challenging clients
and students to be their best, producing sustained results.
Marilyn's contracts include executive
coaching for international firms based in the US, Environmental
Protection Agency leaders, an EAP contract for coaching
with leaders, teaching Organizational Behavior and International
Business in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and helping launch
a college mentoring program. A leader herself, Marilyn's
work is oriented around her life purpose, to Renew,
Discover, and Develop. She practices continual learning
and development. Marilyn teaches the ILCT Foundational
class and Foundational
Competency Practicum.
A contributor to Coaching by the
Book and Pat Williams' Law
and Ethics in Coaching, Marilyn published
an inspiring email newsletter for four years. Her "Renewing
Your Spirit" column ran in kcmag.com. Her career
columns in The Kansas City Star and her features
have appeared in The Brazil Herald/Latin American
Daily Post, as well as other publications. She
has published a Renewing Your Spirit workbook,
available on her web site.
Marilyn's credentials make her a leader among coaches
and presenters. With her behavioral science background
and extensive training, she quickly assesses a situation
and co-develops a plan to take her clients to the next
level. Marilyn was educated at Southern Methodist University
(BA with honors, Texas and Spain), and the University
of Kansas (MSW), with postgraduate training in coaching
through the Institute for Life Coach Training (the second
class, in 1999!); systems theory (two year program);
forty hours of mediation through the Kansas Bar Association;
thirty hours at the Intercultural Communication Institute;
and leadership exchanges.
Personally, Marilyn models a balanced life, and is
passionate about God, people she holds dear, and her
work. She travels, does Pilates, canoes/kayaks/sails,
swims, walks, rides horses; and is energized by the
attractions of the city: the arts, activities, and great
restaurants.
Other than living in 3 other countries (Spain, Brazil,
and TEXAS) Marilyn has called Kansas City home. She
is fortunate to have both of her college graduate daughters
living (independently!) in the area, as well as her
parents.
An honorary member of the UK College
of Life Coaching, a (past) member of Who's Who in Executives
and Professionals, Marilyn has also been nominated for Great
Women of the 21 st Century. Marilyn's coaching company
has been a nominee for the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce
Small Business of the Year for 3 years, as well as a
candidate for Kansas City Small Business Monthly's 25
under 25 (employees) award.

Where In
The World Is Pat Williams?
February 18th - 25th
Marco Island, FL New
England Educational Institute
Pat will be presenting his highly successful Therapist as Life
Coach: A Natural Transition symposium.
Presence is an intimate
look at the development of a new theory about
change and learning. In wide-ranging conversations
held over a year and a half, organizational
learning pioneers Peter Senge, C. Otto Scharmer,
Joseph Jaworski, and Betty Sue Flowers explored
the nature of transformational change—how
it arises, and the fresh possibilities it offers
a world dangerously out of balance. The book
introduces the idea of "presence"—a
concept borrowed from the natural world that
the whole is entirely present in any of its
parts—to the worlds of business, education,
government, and leadership. Too often, the authors
found, we remain stuck in old patterns of seeing
and acting. By encouraging deeper levels of
learning, we create an awareness of the larger
whole, leading to actions that can help to shape
its evolution and our future.
Based on over twenty years
of research and spiritual practice, this is
a groundbreaking and life-changing book. In
his decades of study, Dr. Roger Walsh has discovered
that each of the great spiritual traditions
has both a common goal and seven common practices
to reach that goal: recognizing the sacred and
divine that exist both within and around us.
Filled with stories, exercises, meditations,
myths, prayers, and practical advice, Essential
Spirituality shows how you can integrate these
seven principles into one truly rewarding way
of life in which kindness, love, joy, peace,
vision, wisdom, and generosity become an ever-growing
part of everything you do.
Law and Ethics in Coaching presents
the first comprehensive look at ethical and
legal issues in coaching. From coach-client
conflicts to conflicts of interest, from assessments
to informed consent, the authors detail the
breadth of ethical quandaries in coaching and
provide highly practical advice for avoiding
problems—and for solving them.
"This book provides an
easy-to-read introduction to the core ethical
and professional issues faced by all coaches
irrespective of length of coaching experience.
The case studies and guidelines in this book
will help coaches constructively reflect on
their coaching practice, and will help build
the solid ethical foundation that professional
coaching practice demands. A very useful text
for both the beginning and experienced coach." —Anthony
M. Grant, PhD, Director, Coaching Psychology
Unit, University of Sydney.
