Pat's Ponderings - Exciting Changes for ILCT

One of life’s constants is change. Responding to change is an evolutionary skill that we, as coaches, help our clients hone as they face crisis, challenges, and turmoil in their lives. Helping them face circumstances, check alternatives, and choose an appropriate response is what coaching Is all about.

As ILCT continues as a world leader in the application of Total Life Coaching, we are also changing to meet the demands for a new way to teach, communicate and support those who want to learn how to become excellent coaches. This past month we conducted a survey with ILCT students on the changing coaching industry and how ILCT can help support them and the coaching community.

We found that:

  • 25% of our students are planning to complete the ACTP program
  • 60% are planning to take 1 or more classes in the coming year
  • 75% indicated they might be interested in ILCT’s proposal to offer shorter classes
  • 75% expressed interest in taking self-directed courses

Aside from the multiple electives ILCT currently offers its students, respondents were asked about other courses they might be interested in taking. The top choices were:

  • Leadership Coaching
  • Career Coaching
  • Non-profit Coaching
  • Entrepreneurial Coaching
  • Creating a Revenue Stream
  • Internet Coaching
  • Parenting

During the coming months, we will be working to implement some of the valuable suggestions received through the survey, creating alternative formats for some of our popular classes, as well as working to develop new classes to meet the needs of our students and the profession.

If you have suggestions about possible courses you’d like to see offered at ILCT, or want to share your ideas about changing course formats, we would love to hear from you.  Please share your thoughts with us!

And stay tuned to this newsletter and our website, and we will let you know when we begin rolling out these exciting new programs!

Transitions

Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes, Revised 25th Anniversary Edition by William Bridges

Whether it is chosen or thrust upon you, change brings both opportunities and turmoil. Since first published 25 years ago, Transitions has helped hundreds of thousands of readers cope with these issues by providing an elegantly simple yet profoundly insightful roadmap of the transition process. With the understanding born of both personal and professional experience, William Bridges takes readers step by step through the three stages of any transition: The Ending, The Neutral Zone, and, in time, The New Beginning. Bridges explains how each stage can be understood and embraced, leading to meaningful and productive movement into a hopeful future. With a new introduction highlighting how the advice in the book continues to apply and is perhaps even more relevant today, and a new chapter devoted to change in the workplace, Transitions will remain the essential guide for coping with the one constant in life: change.

Total Life Coaching

Total Life Coaching: 50+ Life Lessons, Skills, and Techniques to Enhance Your Practice...and Your Life by Dr. Patrick Williams MCC, Dr. Lloyd J. Thomas

Life coaching is more than a collection of techniques and skills. It is more than something you do. Life coaching reflects who you are-it is your authentic being in action. Readers of Pat Williams's and Deborah Davis's book, Therapist as Life Coach, know Pat to be a gifted life coach and passionate teacher. Here Pat and psychologist/colleague and writer of more than 1600 newspaper columns, Lloyd J. Thomas, build on this earlier book and share a unique insight into the coaching process, which shows you precisely how to enhance your professional practices through practical and effective life coaching. It also empowers you to change your own lives through use of the practical information and philosophy presented here.

Total Life Coaching is organized into a series of 52 life lessons, and is designed to be either read cover-to-cover or dipped into, as needed, for assistance when conducting a coaching session. Keeping life's processes on the "message and lesson" level makes living and life coaching much easier and more enjoyable. Total Life Coaching guides you step-by-step through the complex process of learning and coaching these important lessons.

Review:
Thank you, Pat Williams, for writing Total Life Coaching. It is a wonderful resource book that every coach should have at their fingertips, whether they have been coaching one year or many years. It is not just one of the many books on general coaching philosophy and techniques. Total Life Coaching is written with a “how to” approach. It is organized into a wide rage of categories of coaching topics. Each category contains a rich menu of information, exercises, creative coaching approaches, and examples of coaching conversations. I know I will be using the wisdom of
Total Life Coaching for every client I have. Diana Kilinski, LPC, CEAP, Business and Life Coach, Savvy Life Skills, LLC
