Volume 7 Issue 1– January 2008
In This Issue:
Tomorrow's Life Coach (TLC) is a monthly online
journal from the Institute for Life Coach Training
(ILCT) that nourishes the intellect, intuition and
inspiration of the personal and business coaching
community.
Pat's Ponderings
"There is no way to peace.
Peace is the way." These
immortal words spoken by Gandhi are the only truth
about peace that will lead to its ever being realized
in our world. (Read Peace
is the Way by Deepak Chopra) You and I must strive
toward peaceful living in our homes, with our families,
our communities and our world. That means to be purposeful
and conscious of our actions and communications
every day. And when we find ourselves not at peace,
act! Do something peaceful, or "peace-creating." Be
anonymously kind to someone, or be of service to a stranger.
Give a gift for no reason other than that of love.
We all can be less apathetic and more responsible
(response able). What daily actions are you taking for
peace? What self-limiting beliefs about the world and
about other cultures are you not challenging? Anger
and violence seem to be dominating human attitudes today
and yet I know that there are millions of quiet peacemakers.
Maybe it is time to be more vocal, more actionable,
and more authentic. How can we find ways to mobilize
our "global warming" amongst humans that I
wrote about in the last newsletter?
John F Kennedy said "those
who make peaceful revolution impossible, will make violent
revolution inevitable."
It has been 40 years since Martin Luther King was assassinated
for being a peacemaker, but his powerful words still
ring true, "Mankind must evolve
for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge,
aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such
a method is LOVE."
In Speak Peace in a World of Conflict by Marshall Rosenberg,
he teaches to create peace by connecting to life at
three levels:
- Creating peace within ourselves.
- Creating peaceful connections with others.
- Transforming the structures we have created — corporate,
judicial, governmental, and others — that don’t
support peaceful, life-enriching connections between
us.
And in The Anatomy of Peace by the
Arbinger Institute, the the character
of Yusuf says, "lasting
solutions to our outward conflicts are possible only
to the extent we find real solutions to our inner ones."
Peace is the way, and the path begins within us, then
we can journey toward peace with others in our community
and hopefully that will spread.
"Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely
a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web he does
to himself. All things are bound together. All things
connect." Chief Seattle.

Employee Assistance (EAP) & Workplace Professionals
The EA-CS certificate program is designed
for EA professionals committed to leveraging their skills
and fully utilizing their talents to inspire the optimal
potential of employees and organizations. Employee assistance
professionals use coaching skills & strategies
to create more effective employee performance, generate
increased client / employee satisfaction and retention,
and build "continuous learning organizations."
The EACS™ certificate is the foundation for coaching
in areas that are essential for balancing employee & organizational
excellence while simultaneously integrating coaching
within the workplace, such as:

and focused action with clear goals and improved effectiveness
of employees and the organization.
- Transitions in times of crisis and individual or
organizational change.
- Job performance & career satisfaction; contributing
to organizational goals and mission, making specific
behavioral changes and leveraging strengths.

followership, and essential team-working capacities.

Spotlight on Advanced Skills Practicum
Do you want to take your coaching skills to a new level?
Do you want to practice your coaching skills with a
live client in a supportive small group environment?
Would you like to have a notebook full of skills and
aids on how and when to use them at your fingertips?
Look no further. The Advanced Skills Practicum offers
all this and more.
This class is composed of 14 sessions; the beginning
class is an introduction; the ending class is a wrap-up
of what has been learned. The remaining 12 sessions
will cover
30 – 40 coaching skills. This class will provide
a minimum of three observed coaching sessions for each
student with written feedback, which can be used towards
the ICF requirement of six observed coaching sessions.
I loved this class! And I had made up my mind
I was going to hate it! Why? Because I am unusually
self conscious when being observed, especially by
someone I consider an expert. Lynn Meinke is an
expert coach and I was sure my self-consciousness
would do me in. Thankfully, my worst fears were
not realized because of Lynn's ability to make me
feel comfortable, to use great coaching skills to
encourage and acknowledge her students and to give
instructive and constructive feedback... Lynn practices
what she teaches so well and I look forward to other
classes with her. She shares her experiences, her learnings
and her expertise with ease and grace. And she welcomes
as well as solicits information from her students
to further understand the client's situation. For
example, I am a pastor and our client was a pastor
as well. Lynn did not hesitate to double check assumptions
to gain insight from me in this setting. I truly experienced
sitting at the feet of a master in her presence. I
always left the call fully supported, fully an adult
and eager for the next class. Thanks, Lynn and ILCT. Nancy

Peace
Is the Way: Bringing War and Violence to an
End
by Deepak Chopra
"There is no way to peace, peace is the
way."
Deepak Chopra expands on Mahatma Gandhi's famous
quote, teaching us how to expand awareness,
stop reacting out of fear, and reject war—one
person at a time.
As Dr. Chopra says, "Violence may be innate
in human nature, but so is its opposite: love.
The next stage of humanity, the leap we are
poised to take, will be guided by the force
of that love." |

The Anatomy of
Peace: Resolving the Heart of Conflict
by The Arbinger Institute
"Through an intriguing story of parents
struggling with their troubled children and
with their own personal problems, The Anatomy
of Peace shows how to get past the preconceived
ideas and self-justifying reactions that keep
us from seeing the world clearly and dealing
with it effectively. Yusuf al-Falah, an Arab,
and Avi Rozen, a Jew, each lost his father at
the hands of the other's ethnic cousins. As
the story unfolds, we discover how they came
together, how they help warring parents and
children to come together, and how we too can
find our way out of the struggles that weigh
us down. The choice between peace and war lies
within us."

a Professional Life Coach: Lessons from the
Institute for Life Coach Training by Dr.
Patrick Williams & Dr. Diane S. Menendez

of the foundations of coaching and its future
trajectory, Becoming a Professional Life
Coach takes readers step-by-step through

listening with;

| REVIEWS: Being
a truly effective ally of another person
requires us to know both what to do and
how to be; Becoming a Professional Life Coach gives us both.
While the task of creating a comprehensive
training text on the broad field of life
coaching is quite daunting, Patrick Williams
and Diane Menendez take it on with what
appears to be real joy and they master it.
The reader is both instructed and inspired
cover to cover. The challenge of doing more
than producing another coaching "cookbook" is
met and exceeded with an excellent integration
of both practical technique and well grounded
theory.
Becoming a Professional Life Coach integrates
what is sometimes missing in much coach
training, such as Prochaska's Stage
of Readiness For Change. The book takes
terms which have become well-worn catch
phrases, such as fulfillment and empowerment,
and infuses them with new life, helping
the coach to truly understand their
meaning, importance and their use. Becoming
a Professional Life Coach will become
the touchstone in the field of training
life coaches. Michael Arloski, Ph.D.,
PCC, author of Wellness
Coaching For Lasting Lifestyle Change.
