Resilience Coaching for Stress and Burnout

Dealing with extreme chronic stress and burnout is a top concern for many of our coaching clients.  The two-year pandemic has brought multiple new demands and changes to life and work, with anxiety and uncertainty increasing exponentially and leading to progressive mental and physical depletion.  

Resilience is not about enduring, coping or surviving; it’s allowing ourselves enough space to rest and recharge essential life resources that keep us alive and well, so we can keep going and enjoy our life.  But how can you do this, and how do you coach your overwhelmed clients?  In this course, you’ll learn about stress, how it impacts health, quality of life, motivation and empowerment, and build your knowledge, skillset and practice to address extreme chronic stress / burnout and to offer better solutions to your clients.  The resilience approach will help your clients make better choices and habits, to build a life that fulfills, fits and fuels them, so they can thrive instead of coping or enduring.   

Course Objectives

This course consists of six, two-hour weekly interactive videoconference classes, as well as 2-3 hours per week of reading, individual and peer group reflections and assignments including coaching practice. All assignments have to be received before course completion.

Participants in this course will:

  1. Learn about the four distinct, inter-related dimensions of personal resilience: (1) Big Picture Vision; (2) Triage and Discernment; (3) Resources and Capacity; and (4) Life Skillset.
  2. Discern healthy stress from chronic unhealthy stress spiraling into burnout.
  3. Introduce how cultural beliefs and perception impact mental/physical response and how neuro-plasticity can provide solutions.
  4. Explore the impacts of extreme chronic stress and burnout on resilience, mental & physical health & wellbeing.  
  5. Identify red flags with stress checkpoints and assessments. 
  6. Gain a new framework based on a five-step resilience approach to stress recovery & rebuilding, using a more adapted, growth mindset that focuses on life purpose and satisfaction, the ability to face change and challenges positively, and thriving instead of surviving.
  7. Identify dysfunctional myths & cultural beliefs and replace them with functional, empowering deliberate choices, an internal locus of control, a growth / learning mindset, and positive self-beliefs. 
  8. Learn about common self-limitations and cultural stereotypes, and how to best apply resilience and self-leadership skillset to real life.
  9. Build effective resilience strategies using a small-step, progressive approach to prevent and reduce stress load, instead of “managing” it.  Bring new perspectives, including mindful presence & appreciation in everyday life.
  10. Learn about self-stewardship: integrate a kinder, more respectful approach to self-accountability that integrates self-support and self-leadership, helping clients support, lead and empower themselves.  
  11. Help clients develop an empowered, resilient approach to life and work demands and challenges, using coaching to enhance a holistic approach to a life with meaning, purpose, motivation, health, and fulfillment. Build purpose-based, realistic strategies, instead of relying on busyness-based and perfectionist approaches leading to depletion.
  12. Develop and broaden effective coaching techniques, skills and tools needed to integrate effective resilience competencies into coaching sessions and build a thriving, resilient coaching business.


Frequency: This course is offered once a year.
